Exactly what I was looking for |
|
I am putting together an emergency earthquake kit and this is perfect. It is small but works great. The flashlight isn't a turbo strong light, but works just fine. Charging my phone is a plus too. This would be a great addition to a car kit too. |

Initial Impressions |
|
Looks like a quality product at a fair price. Sounds good, came charged and ready to play. Prompt delivery. Compact. The 10-15 minute crank requirement to charge cell for 1-2 minutes seems excessive. I guess in a SHTF situation you'd have time on your hands. Being able to charge you cell might be a lifesaver. I would recommend to a friend. |

Good sound for a little thing |
|
We just received our Eton FR160 and it does all it says it does. We took it out of the box, gave it a few cranks, and the flashlight immediately lit up. Then we perched it on the window sill and it was a cloudy day, but the radio ran for at least 3 hours on it's own, until I turned it off. Who knows how long it would run on barely any sun. The sound from this little radio is very good for a small device. I hooked up my USB cable to my cell phone and gave it a few cranks and could see the charging bar on my phone moving, it works well. Then I plugged my Ipod in and gave it a few cranks, it works and could see the charging signal! I have to experiment to see what other devices I'll be able to charge with this. This is definitely part of our Emergency/Survival gear. Very pleased with Eton! |

Great addition for any emergency kit. |
|
I bought this for my "Go Bag/Emergency Kit" and I am very happy with its performance. The one feature that I hane not yet tested is the USB recharging plug, though I suspect it will work fine as long as the battery in the radio has been charged before anything is pluged in. I would not recommend using the hand crank to charge a phone because the generators in these devices are typically unregulated and prone to power surges and may fry you phone. |

small size makes cranking a problem |
I purchased this for emergency situations and power outages. The radio works fine with all 3 bands, AM/FM/weather. The flashlight is more than sufficient for my needs. The solar charging is very convenient. Battery life looks good. I've used the radio for hours at a time along with the flashlight without running the battery dry.
Just one problem. I've got large hands. This unit is relatively small. Holding it and cranking isn't easy for me. I hope I never need to crank it to charge a cell phone as the manual indicates that 10 to 15 minutes of cranking may result in 1 or more minutes of talk time.
