Installation
Choosing the best location for installation of the Signal Antenna provides the best performance and the largest area of improved signal. Determine the location that provides the strongest signal using the signal strength indicator on your cell phone. For the best reception, find the location that provides the most bars of signal strength and locate the Signal Antenna at that location. Specifications

The Wi-Ex YX500-PCS unit will work only in the PCS frequency range (1850 â€" 1990 MHz), and the Wi-Ex YX500-CEL will only work in the Cellular frequency range (824 â€" 896 MHz). Cell phones from providers like Cricket, Metro PCS, Suncom, T-Mobile, and Sprint (excludes Nextel) normally work with our YX500-PCS model, and cell phones from providers like AT&T and Verizon will normally work with the YX500-CEL model. Most of the wireless phones in use today are in the PCS or the Cellular frequencies. Some wireless service providers are PCS only while others will operate in the Cellular and PCS frequencies. This varies from city to city. If your service provider shows both 800 and 1900 MHz the YX500-CEL will probably work. If your service provider shows only the 1900MHz, the YX500-PCS booster will work. |

YX 500 Cel Phone Booster |
Product was installed according to instructions and range is limited to about 10 ft. from booster.I had a very if'y signal before booster was installed. After trying two different mounting configurations the best reception I can get is only if within 10 ft. of booster. I do however have a signal that is consistent, but weak. Booster has to be in visual sight all of the time. That is somewhat of a pain as I tend to roam around when talking on phone.
The directional antenna may help even more, but I am not willing to spend another $100+ to find out if does or does not help. Boasting a 2,500 sq. ft. of coverage is, in my estimation, a major exaggeration. |

Works as advertised |

I would have to be on the patio or by the windows to get a 2 or more bars, while I would get nothing while anywhere else inside my new apartment. I decided to buy this on a friend's recommendation and I followed the simple instructions. It works as it states. Now I get 3-5 bars and the antennae is just inside one of the windows. |

I have now have installed two of the cell boosters. Follow the intructions and ensure the external antenna is located where there is a consistent signal then it works great. If you cannot get the external antenna where there is a good consistent signal, then that is the same result you will have in your home as well. The booster works great, but you can't expect it to work magic.
In my home I have consistent 5 bars with the booster (after extending the external antenna to about 20 feet), where it ranged from 0-2 bars without the booster. At my hunting club the signal is inconsistant but certainly better with the booster. We plan on raising the antenna higher with the hopes of finding a stronger external signal. |

misleading description |
The text on this product is misleading. It states verizon uses 800mhz so this product should be ok. In actuality verizon uses 800 and 1900mhz so this product does not work for me. YMMV
It never hurts to call your carrier to verify what you need...I believed the description and the description is wrong. |

most difficult installation |
This was a very difficult installation. The directions were poor, and it took me a lot of effort to get it working. I came very close to sending it back when I realized quite by accident that the antenna cable cannot be routed close to the base unit. Since the cable is attached to the bottom of the unit (mounted on a wall), it is natural to route the cable next to the unit since in most cases the antenna will be above the unit. That interferes with the signal, and the unit is erratic or non-functional. Routing the cable in a big loop finally solved the problem. Oddly enough mounting the unit upside down didn't work, maybe because it lowered the antenna a little. It is very sensitive to placement.
The unit does work once installed correctly, but don't confuse 2,500 feet of coverage with 2,500 feet of living space unless your space is a circle around the unit. |
